Meet Hakima!

Introduction:

To share more about life in Morocco with you, I decided to interview one of my mentors from my university. Hakima is currently working on becoming a registered nurse. She was born in Spain, but her parents migrated from Morocco, which explains why her name is very Moroccan.

What is your full name?:

Hakima Ben Yakhlef Kassidi.

Where do you live? What is your house like?:

Hakima lives in La Canonja, a small town in Tarragona. La Cononja is located just 13 minutes away from Tarragona, and since it's a fairly small town, Hakima mainly spends most of her time in Tarragona, where she attends college. Hakima lives in a very small apartment in La Cononja that contains three bedrooms, one bathroom and a kitchen, but she describes it as being still very comfortable. Hakima explains that even though she lives in Spain, when she enters her home, it feels as though she's traveling to Morocco, since the sofas, the paintings and the woodwork they all are from Morocco. She says that her house is often decorated with lots of crafts that are handmade by her and her siblings.  She says, "It's funny sometimes, because when I was a kid, when there was a Catalan holiday like La Mona, we always made crafts in class to decorate the house, so you could see my house as quite a mix of cultures!"
