This week in Paraguay, the Tajy (Guarani), or Lapacho (Spanish), trees are blooming. There are four different colors of Tajy trees, white, pink, yellow and green. Each blooms at a slightly different time of year. Currently the yellow trees are in bloom, and lining the streets with bright yellow flowers.
Unfortunately here in Paraguay, many communities burn their trash, as there is no other means of waste disposal. When experiencing extreme hot and dry weather, this not only causes risk of fires, but severely decreases the air quality. This makes it hard for people to spend time outside, commute to work or exercise.
