Not only were the pigs in the forest cute, but pigs also have a special meaning in Germany around New Years. It is a tradition to give away little pigs made of marzipan (a sweet almond paste) to your friends and family so they will be lucky all year. In fact, "having a pig" (schwein gehabt) means being lucky in German!
Wildschwein (wild boar) are big brown pigs with lighter brown stripes down their bodies. They have lots of wiry hair and are usually covered in mud. They have long snouts that are good for digging around and looking for food.
The wildschwein that we saw were babies and were so cute! I was very excited to see them and I was even happier because I got to feed them. There is a vending machine at the entrance to the forest that has different types of food for the forest animals. The little pigs were happy to have a snack!
