I was also able to see the door, known as the Door of No Return, where enslaved people were forcibly transported from Africa to the Americas. Today, the island has a monument named Statue De La Libération De L'esclavage, which translates to "Statue of Liberation from Slavery". Visiting the island was a very emotional experience but one I am glad to have had.
