Life in Lyon: A New Perspective

Introduction:

Lyon is an incredible city, but I am only seeing it through my own eyes. I am a foreign student and have grown up in the United States, just like you. So, I talked with my host mother this week about her life in Lyon to get a local's perspective. I was excited to learn more about what she does while I'm at school and what she cares about in daily life!

What is your full name?:

My full name is Guillemette Fougols.

Where do you live? What is your house like?:

I live in Lyon, France in an apartment with two bedrooms in the 6ème arrondissment [6th neighboorhood - in France, most of the neighboorhoods are numbered instead of named]. My apartment is on the third floor of a small building in the middle of two restaurants. Most of the time I take the stairs, but two years ago we got an elevator. Although, it's very small and can only fit three people, it's perfect when I have heavy bags of groceries!

What is your family like?:

I live with my husband and our children and grandchildren live in Paris, which is either a five hour drive or two hour speed train from Lyon. Our family enjoys outdoors activities and spending time together in the country. I communicate with my children mostly through texts and emails. I love sending and receiving photos or videos over the phone!
