It’s the holiday season, and Lyon has a bright and beautiful way of celebrating this special time of the year! Every December, the city hosts the Fête des Lumières (Festival of Lights, pronounced “fet day loo-me-air”), one of Lyon’s most famous traditions. The city glows with beautiful light displays made by artists and locals celebrate by putting small candles in the windows of their home. The festival starts around December 8th and usually lasts for four nights. This year, the festival took place from December 5th to 8th.
During the Festival of Lights, locals and visitors from all over France and the world come to see the city light up with amazing colors and designs! Fun Fact: Around 2 million people come to Lyon each year for this celebration. That is more than 600 times the number of people who live in your town of Perkins!
The Fête des Lumières (Festival of Lights) is one of the biggest light festivals in the whole world. During this celebration, both visitors and locals explore the city to see the beautiful light art. Designers and artists work together to create glowing sculptures, colorful light projections on buildings, and even light shows that you can interact with.
