Travel News

How far did I travel this week?:

This week I traveled 11.4 miles around CDMX (or at least, that's my walking distance). Mexico City is geographically large, taking up 577 square miles (1,495 meters squared). It's also the largest city in North America.

How far have I traveled on this journey so far?:

From Seattle to Mexico City, it's about 2,840 miles, or about a six-hour plane ride.

How did I get around this week?:

The easiest way to get around Mexico City is either by using the metro system or walking. City officials estimate that 5.5 million people ride the metro each day, and I'm one of them!

What was the most interesting place I visited this week?:

The most interesting place I visited this week was Xochimilco. Xochimilco is in southern Mexico City and is best known for its canals, which are the last remnants of Aztec influence. Visitors can ride in colorful boats, called trajineras, and sail around the various islands called chinampas. While you sail around, you'll be greeted by food, music and souvenir boats.

Other Travel News from this week:

Xochimilco does a great job simulating what traveling around Mexico City used to be like during the time of the Aztecs. What is Mexico City today was originally an island called Tenochtitlan, located in the middle of Lake Texcoco.
