Spanish is the most spoken language in Mexico, spoken by 99% of the population. Mexico is also the largest Spanish-speaking country in the world. Aside from Spanish, there are 63 recognized indigenous languages, such as Nahuatl, Maya and Mixtec.
In Mexico, people use the Mexican peso (MXN). As of right now, the conversion rate is that $1 USD equals $0.055 Mexican pesos. Both currencies use the dollar sign, so it can be a little confusing at first!
A bottle of water at a corner store is $11 MXN, or about $0.60 USD.
The best meal this week was a dish called tacos árabes. This variety of taco is typical in Puebla, Mexico. Instead of a tortilla, the taco uses pan árabe, which is kind of like pita bread. The bread is filled with meat (usually pork) that is slow-roasted on a spit and seasoned with Middle Eastern spices.
I didn't actually listen to much music this week because I am a podcast girl! One of my favorite podcasts is called Radio Ambulante, which tells stories from Latin America. It's a great podcast for intermediate to advanced Spanish speakers.
