The Tarantula Hawk Lives in the Jungle, Beach, and Mountains of Peru!

Introduction:

This week, I want to share some pictures of my time exploring the different parts of Peru, as well as tell you more about the spider attacking a bug that I showed you all on our video call!

What does this creature or plant look like?:

This is a tarantula hawk. If you remember, I showed you all a video of it during our live video call! It looks like a big wasp, and it is usually black and red/orange. It has six legs and flies! They are about one inch long here in Peru, but can get up to two and a half inches long!

How did I feel when I saw it?:

I felt scared when I saw the tarantula hawk for the first time. It is really big, and it flies! They are very loud, just like bees. I was very interested the first time that I saw one carrying around a spider. It was an awesome thing to watch!

Where does it live?:

The tarantula hawk lives on every continent except Antarctica! Most of them live in South America (where Peru is), but you can even find some in the United States. There are over 250 different types of them in South America, and about 18 types in the United States.

How does it use its environment to survive?:

In Peru, there are a lot of spiders, especially wild tarantulas!
