In Senegal, price negotiation for taxis is a way to create community, and often leads to longer conversations. During taxi rides I often practice speaking Wolof (Senegal's national language) with my driver. Yesterday, I gave my driver an English lesson, and he gave me a lesson in two local languages: Wolof and Serrer. During one taxi ride, we spoke four languages: Wolof, Serrer, French and English! By riding in taxis, I learn so much about Senegalese culture!
