There is even a competition called the "Fleadh Cheoil" (Irish for "festival of music"), in which Irish musicians from around the world exchange tunes and compete for awards!
Additionally, many Irish music is accompanied by dances. The dance style uses the music of reels, jigs and hornpipes for group dances. People usually dance together in groups of two, four or six as a way to socialize and meet new people.
Many traditional Irish music is connected to nature. For example, Irish music played in County Clare reflects the beautiful landscape of the Cliffs of Moher all the way to the Burren. Traditional Irish music varies based on region as well. The style of music in County Clare greatly differs from the style in County Donegal. Traditional music in County Clare tends to be slower and more lyrical. The music in County Donegal often relies more on the fiddle and has a greater influence from a nearby country, Scotland. The geography of Ireland can play a large role on the traditional music played in that region.
