Travel News

How far did I travel this week?:

This week, I went to Lima, the capital of Peru, to get some medical tests done. I live about eight hours by bus from the capital. To get there, I have to go through some very windy mountains. I even pass over a point called Ticlio, which is at about 15,807 feet above sea level. Ticlio is so high up that it has snow year-round, despite being located in the tropics, where it is usually very hot.

How far have I traveled on this journey so far?:

The farthest I traveled was the Madre de Dios department of Peru, one of the Peruvian departments where you can see the Amazon rainforest. My dad and I went together during my school vacation to visit Manu National Park. We saw capybaras, giant otters, caimans, tapirs, macaws and so many different types of butterflies and insects! To get there, I had to get a bus to Lima, fly to Cusco, drive in a car for eight hours and then sit on a boat for another six hours. It was a very long trip, but definitely worth it.

How did I get around this week?:

I mostly got around by walking. I only have to walk about 10 minutes to get to the high school where I work. There were a couple of days where I had to take a colectivo, which is like a shared taxi, to get to the nearest city called Tarma. My town has a few drivers whose job it is to take passengers to and from my town to Tarma.
