Tropical World of Wonders

Introduction:

I'm about three months into my semester, and I've already seen so much of what Costa Rica has to offer. I have traveled to so many new places, and I got to see just how diverse the landscape here is. I have walked on black sand beaches along the Caribbean sea, trekked through lush cloud forests in the mountains and hiked up to the peak of an active volcano. Through my travels and conversations with the people who live here, I have learned a lot about how the people here interact with their environment.

What makes this environment special or different?:

Costa Rica may be a small country, but it holds over 5% of the world’s biodiversity. Biodiversity is the variety of life forms on earth and can refer to different species of animals, plants and insects. One factor that makes this country such a great place for different types of plants and animals is the climate. Costa Rica is a tropical country with warm temperatures year round. This makes it the perfect place for many plants and animals to thrive. Costa Rica’s geographic location, or place on the earth, also makes it a great place for natural life. It serves as a land bridge between North and South America. Many animals pass through the country when they make their migration journeys each season.
