I honestly love the public transportation system. In California, I grew up north of San Fransico and am used to dealing with heavy traffic when traveling through the city. (Quick fact: there's pretty much traffic everywhere you go in California when traveling on the 101 Freeway). Los Angeles is another city that is notorious for its heavy traffic.
Here in Stockholm, I live a 50-minute commute from my university campus. Despite the distance, I really enjoy my commute as I can use the time to do other work instead of having to drive. Also, when considering the money I would have spent on insurance, gas, and car maintenance... this method of traveling is much cheaper!
The only downside of this system is that on weekdays, the trains stop running around midnight. This can be difficult to work around when exploring the city with friends at night. During my first experience with this situation, I had to take the bus back to my accommodation which took twice as long and led to my sleeping at three a.m.— needless to say, ever since then, I have been very careful with timing my trips with my friends appropriately!
Absolutely! As I alluded to earlier, the entire city of Stockholm is actually considered to be one of the world's largest art exhibits as every station is designed in a way to showcase a particular artistic flair. It makes any normal trip within Stockholm a bit more interesting and gives me something to look forward to!
