Icelandic is the main language spoken here, which I am trying to learn. Most people speak English, as well. The older generation speaks Danish, too, since Iceland used to be under Danish rule until it declared independence in 1944.
The currency of Iceland is the Icelandic króna (krónur in the plural). There is a 1 króna coin, as well as 5, 10, 50, and 100 krónur coins. Banknotes come in 500, 1000, 2000, 5000, and 10,000 krónur. Today, one U.S. dollar is worth about 130 krónur.
A bottle of water in Iceland would cost around 200 krónur. However, Icelanders never buy water in the store because the water here is extremely pure!
I had a delicious meal of lamb and reindeer this week. Both animals roam the Icelandic countryside during their lifetime, which is more sustainable than eating animals raised in captivity.
I listened to Páll Óskar this week, an Icelandic musician who is known for his pop music. I went to his concert a few years ago, which was really fun.
