






Spanish is the primary and official language spoken throughout Colombia. However, in some southern regions, communities still speak Indigenous languages like Bora and Witoto. Accents vary across regions, as each community has its own way of expressing itself and unique slang terms.
The official currency is the Colombian peso. As of December 2024, the exchange rate was around COP$4400 for USD$1. In smaller towns like the one I'm in, Colombians still rely heavily on cash for most daily transactions.
A bottle of water typically costs between COP$1000 and COP$3000 at most when bought at a grocery or small convenience store. However, Colombia generally has lower costs, and you can expect to find many small foods and drinks for less than a dollar!
This week, I decided to make burst cherry tomato pasta for dinner, and it was great! Colombia has a great selection of fresh fruit, which makes it perfect for meals with fresh ingredients. This dish was highly recommended by my friend because it’s nutritious and easy to make. It also goes really well with hot sauce, giving it a nice kick. Definitely will be making that again!
