Mar y Montañas (Sea and Mountains)

Introduction:

The region of Catalunya is made up of beautiful and unique landscapes. This region borders the Mediterranean Sea to the south and, to the east, the Pyrenees Mountains. In this post, I hope you learn more about what makes this environment so special and why I truly feel as if it is my second home.

What makes this environment special or different?:

Catalunya is a unique environment because it is very diverse. This means it is made up of a lot of different types of landscapes. For example, Catalunya boasts both mountain ranges for skiing and hiking as well as 550km (341 miles) of beaches – that’s 341 miles of coastline! Oregon, in comparison, has 363 miles of coastline. In addition, Catalunya also has a lot of fertile valleys that grow a variety of delicious foods. This is just like our own Willamette Valley, where Portland and Tualatin are located.

What parts of this environment help people to live here?:

I would say one part of the environment that most helps the people living here is the fertile soil of the valleys. These valleys surround Barcelona and the rest of Catalunya, and produce such foods as pears, tomatoes, apples and grapes. This has long made Catalunya a very strong contributor to the Spanish economy; so much food can grow easily here!
