A Land Blooming with Iguanas

When this happens, they will start hissing and swinging their tail to fight back. The spikes lining their back will also stand tall and strong to poke any enemies. Luckily, the iguanas at this park really like to have visitors to come and feed them. After my first visit, I bought some lettuce just to feed them and they enjoyed every bite.

Where does it live?:

These colorfully coated creatures can be found all over South America, the Caribbean islands and Mexico. Anywhere that has a tropical and temperate climate is a great place for iguanas to live. This makes Ecuador a perfect safe space for them. Iguanas can also be found in the United States in places like Hawaii and Florida. Here in Ecuador, however, they live in large parks and rainforest areas to roam freely with plenty of food and space.

How does it use its environment to survive?:

Herbivores are animals that can only eat and process plants. Iguanas must have miles of land and trees to keep food in their tummies. Trees, thick shrubs and bushes are needed to keep them safe from predators, such as hawks, that like to feed on them as prey. Tall trees that are sprouting with many branches and leaves also give a place for iguanas to sleep and hide at night. Because of their varying colors, they are able to blend with the trees. Bright green iguanas are usually easier to spot.

What can harm this creature or plant? Are we worried about it?:

The use of land to grow many fruits and vegetables needed for human food can cause problems for iguanas. Some huge companies like to use chemicals to keep insects away and fertilizer that helps plants grow faster.
