That is, rather than two or more voices singing one melody together continuously and harmonizing, two or more voices sing different parts of the melody at the same time. This form of music was quite distinguishable as it was played in local cafes.

What activity was the most fun this week?:

My favorite activity was swimming in the Black Sea during the day and then walking straight from the sea to the top of a hill that overlooked the vast expanse of mountains right next to the sea to watch the sunset. 

What did I read this week?:

Unfortunately, I cannot read any Georgian or Russian! The symbols of their alphabets are very different to those in the English one. However, all of the major landmarks had English translations on their information boards. The coolest thing I read was about how the city of Tbilisi is thought to have been initially founded in the fifth century.

What games or sports did I play this week?:

The shoreline of the Black Sea where Batumi is located has pebble and stone beaches with very calm waters. The gentle waves push rocks onto the shore and pull them back into the ocean. Over time, this smooths them out. This provides the perfect conditions for skipping rocks!

It was great to meet with another Fulbrighter in Georgia to talk about our experiences so far! The network is far and wide, and it’s always fantastic to discuss unique adventures with one another.
