The main languages spoken in Georgia are Georgian and Russian, though English is also commonly spoken by younger generations. The symbols used in the Georgian alphabet are fascinating. For example, "hello" is “გამარჯობა”, which translates to “gamarjoba” in English letters.
The currency of Georgia is the Georgian lari (GEL; symbolically ₾). The word "lari'' is an ancient Georgian word referencing property.
A one liter bottle of water was usually around two GEL, or only 70 to 80 cents! Mind you, this is pristine mineral spring water straight from the mountains, too.
At a Georgian restaurant, it is typical for each person to order a shareable dish for dinner. So, the family with whom I was staying and I ordered this array of foods: khachapuri (Georgian bread baked with Georgian cheese and eggs), khinkali (a soup dumpling filled with broth and meat), mtsvadi (the Georgian analog to kebabs or meat on a stick), and kharcho (a tomato-based soup with rice, beef and much more).
