The food here is made with tasty local ingredients and all kinds of spices that are not found in the US. White rice and beans are used in most dishes, but they are cooked differently than I am used to. There are meals that are very spicy and some that are not, so all kinds of people can enjoy eating here. Ghanaian recipes have been passed down for generations and are still very popular to everyone living in or visiting this country.
Indomie is very similar to the Instant Ramen that I eat when I am back home. The Indomie noodles here are combined with vegetables and scrambled eggs which give it more flavor and nutritional value.
Jollof rice and kelewele is a common dish here. Jollof rice is a kind of rice that is cooked with different spices that make it look a bit red. Kelewele is fried plantains with added spices to make it spicier than just regular plantains.
Waakye with gari is my favorite food to eat when I am very hungry after class. I especially like it when it comes with vegetables and chicken. Waakye is rice mixed with black-eyed peas.
Red-red is an affordable and delicious dish that I enjoy with my friends in-between classes. It is beans and plantains mixed with palm oil and gari.
