Ecuador Keeps the Trash Moving

If the animals have too much trash in the water, it causes harm to them and there will be less food available. In the mountains and rainforests, however, trash is limited in order to protect the animals. The cattle that they need to feed the entire country requires a lot of free and tidy land space.

Is this need being met? How?:

The communities meet this need by having many advertisements in every city to remind people about trash levels. In the public restrooms, there is always one huge roll of tissue for all people to use. Sometimes, it will even cost you about 25 or 50 cents to purchase it.  This helps people to think about using less so that they do not create a lot of trash. You will also find city cleaners along the streets each day. They have uniforms of blue and orange and, they roll their cleaning carts with tools around all day long. When people see them working, they are more responsible with their trash and will think twice before tossing things onto the ground. After the hard working cleaning crew has finished gathering all trash into bags, the Puerto Limpio (Clean Port) truck comes every night for pickup while playing a friendly tune from a loud speaker. Ecuadorians always come down to pile trash from their homes at a nearby corner, where the trucks usually come to a stop. Each day, Ecuador is working to create a safe space for animals and for themselves.
