Bahasa Indonesia, Balinese and English. Bahasa Indonesia is the unifying language spoken all over Indonesia. I am learning Bahasa Indonesia so I can better communicate with people during my time in Indonesia. Every week, I take 20 hours of languge classes and I can practice everyday with local people. I am learning the language very fast because of all this practice. Balinese is the local language spoken at homes in Bali. English is also commonly spoken in Bali because of all the expats and tourists who visit the island.
Indonesian Rupiah is the name of the money here. The exchange rate is $1 to around 14,000 Rp, so all of the money has a lot of zeros. You kind of feel like a millionaire when you are paying for something with a 100,000 Rp (~$7) bill.
A small bottle of water is about 5,000 Rp, or around 36 cents.
I love fresh food and everywhere in Bali there are fresh fruit, juices and smoothies. I particularly love smoothie bowls because they are such a nice way to start the day. My favorite meal this week was a mango-banana smoothie bowl with strawberries, granola and coconut on top. The fruit that was on top of the delicious smoothie base was made into a flower. It was all served in a wooden bowl.
