A Day in the Life of Aiden

Rebecca often accompanies students on field trips hosted by my exchange program. The last time I actually saw Aiden, before this interview, was when he came along to the trip to Monet's house in Giverny.

"Papa works at a restaurant. He serves people."

Aiden doesn't actually know the word "waiter".

What time does school start, and what time do you go home?:

He looks at his watch. It's green and black and has one of his favorite Ninjago characters on it.

"Big hand on the four, little hand on the eight."

He goes to school at 8:20 in the morning.

He actually can't say, precisely, when he goes home, so his mom answers. School gets out for Aiden at 4:30 P.M. every day except Wednesday, when he gets picked up right after lunch at 1:30 P.M. On some days, he gets picked up at 6:00 P.M., after some after-class activities with his classmates.

How do you get to school? Are you allowed to go to school by yourself?:

"With mommy, by walking."

His school is just a short walk away from home.

Where do you eat lunch? What is your favorite food?:

"At the canteen. I like poisson pané avec citron and haricots verts... I only like lemon on poisson pané."

That's breaded fish nuggets with lemon and green beans. Aiden really likes green beans.

What language do you speak at school? How do you say "Hello" in your language?:

Aiden goes to school with other French kids. They all speak French. Can you remember how you say hello in French?
