Field Note- Transportation

Introduction:

How do you get to school every day? How do you meet up with your friends? I had to ask myself these questions when I moved to Gumi. This week we’re talking about transportation: the way you get from one place to another. Keep on reading to find out how I and other people get around Gumi, South Korea!

How do people get around?:

There are four main ways people get around Gumi. The first is by driving a car. Many people have cars here and use them to go everywhere! I think car travel is the most common way people get around in this part of South Korea. However, what if you don’t have a car, like me? The main way I get around is by walking. I walk in order to get to school every day, eat out or to buy school supplies. The next way to get around is by taking the bus. You have to wait at the bus stop and know what time the bus is coming to your stop. Once you get on the bus, you sit with many other people and click a red button when you need the bus to stop. The last way to get around is by taxi. There is a special phone app., here, where you can order a taxi and pay for it. Once you order the taxi, the driver will drive to your location to pick you up and bring you where you want to go. Have you used any of these ways to get around in your home environment?
