Field Note- Food

Introduction:

What do you like to eat? Do you like to try new foods? I love to eat and talk about food! When I am in the U.S.A., I always like to try to make and eat new food. In Gumi, I am doing the same thing. There are many different Korean foods to try, whether I am at home, at a restaurant or just at a convenience store. Keep on reading to learn about what food I’m eating here in Gumi, South Korea!

What food did I try?:

There are some meals, here, that I have eaten before with my host family, but many others that are new to me! One new meal was steamed Korean clams. We put a big, steaming, pot of clams on the table and ate the tiny meat inside with different sauces. Sometimes when I am on the go, I have a small meal at the convenience store near to my host-family's home. Some of the food there is similar to American food, but with a twist. One example of this twist is a sandwich I had with hard-boiled egg slices, ham and cream cheese on white bread! I ate it with honey ginger tea while sitting at the convenience store. When I have more time, I go to restaurants to try new food. One day for lunch, I ate tteokbokki and don katsu with another teacher from my school. Tteokbokki (떡뽁이) is a popular meal of soft and chewy rice cakes coated in a thick spicy red sauce. Tteokbokki is usually served with salty flat fishcakes mixed into the sauce.
