This week I traveled roughly 100 miles in total. This includes the regular back and forth I make from my town to the nearby city for groceries, as well as a short day-trip I made to a town called La Fortuna-- a very popular tourist destination here in Costa Rica. La Fortuna is famous for its views of Arenal Volcano, which stands at 5,400 feet tall! La Fortuna also has various national parks and a beautiful waterfall.
I haven’t traveled a ton throughout Costa Rica, as I spend most of my time in my community. It can be quite difficult to leave my town. My doctor's appointments, for example, are always in the capital San José. Just to go to one of these appointments I have to walk 25 minutes to the bus, take a 45 minute bus ride to a second hour-long bus, and then a taxi! The whole journey one-way takes anywhere between 3-4 hours!
I typically only get around by bus. I never learned how to drive in New York, and now I’m paying the price!
