This piece is a short interview I did with my neighbor, Doña Marielos. I moved in right next door to her only 3 weeks ago. At first I was a bit scared to move into my own house alone-- I had always lived with roommates or with family up until then. But living right next door to Marielos has been great! She and her family have been so kind to me and often invite me over for meals. It feels more like l am living with a new family than living alone.
My name is Marielos Angeles.
I live in La Paz, right next door to Harry! In fact I’m renting out the house he currently lives in.
As I’m sure Harry has mentioned, La Paz is a rural town in the mountains. I’ve lived here all my life, as have my parents.
La Paz is separated into two areas. One part of the town is agricultural, where you’ll see lots of pastures, sugar cane farms and coffee farms. The other part of the town, the part higher in altitude, is much more wild. The land there is protected by the government such that landowners can’t cut down trees for commercial purposes. Therefore, this side of the town resembles more of a rainforest.
