Have you eaten?

Introduction:

Food is a really big part of Taiwanese culture. Instead of saying "Hello, how are you?", people sometimes greet each other by saying "Chi bao le ma?" which translates to "Have you eaten?" or "Are you full?" I have had the chance to try a lot of different foods that are unique to Taiwan, but there are a few that stand out to me. My Chinese language teachers Mike and Mele were nice enough to have class in their kitchen one day so we could learn how to make some Taiwanese favorites. I got to be a part of the whole cooking process and try some really tasty new foods!

What food did I try?:

San bei ji  (三盃雞), or "three cups chicken" is a very popular dish in Taiwan. It has "three cups" in the name because there are three ingredients that make the sauce for the chicken: rice wine, soy sauce, and sesame oil.

How did I feel when I tried it?:

It was a little weird for me to see all the parts of the chicken in the bowl since I'm not used to seeing that in the U.S., but the chicken itself was so tasty! It was definitely one of my favorite foods that I've tried since I've been here.

How is the food prepared?:

We started out by adding some sesame oil, ginger and garlic into a pan and letting them cook together for a few minutes. Then we added the chicken, and I mean the whole chicken!
