An Interview with Nkhabaola!

What are some common kids' names at your school?:

Some popular names for both boys and girls are Rethabile (ray-tah-bee-lay), which means "we are happy", Karabo (kah-rah-boe), meaning "answer", and Limpho (deem-poe), which means "many gifts". All names in Lesotho have meanings! 

What subjects do you study in school, and which one is your favorite?:

Her favorite subject is math! In Lesotho, Grades One through Four are taught English, Sesotho, math and life skills. Grades Five through Seven learn science and social studies, in addition to the other four subjects. 

What is your homework like?:

Homework is not very typical in Lesotho. The kids do all of their schoolwork during school hours. 

What do you like to do after school? Do you have a favorite sport or game?:

After school, she goes home and fetches the water and washes her clothes. Her favorite sport is football (soccer!), which is by far the most popular sport in Lesotho. 

Who is your favorite famous person?:

Nkhabaola laughed and said, "My mother!" It is common for kids to live separate from their parents here. Nkhabaola's mom lives in South Africa, and she misses her a lot, so she is her favorite person. 

What kinds of music do you listen to?:

She listens to Sandere, a South African genre. 

What would you like to be when you grow up?:

She wants to be a doctor! 

If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?:

She wants to go to Cape Town, South Africa!
