The roof is made of red clay tiles and is steep so that the snow falls off.
Hajar has some of the same chores as you may have at home. She has to clean her room, wash the dishes and take care of the dogs.
Hajar's mom is Mrs. Karen. Mrs. Karen works at Al Akhawayn University, where she is the pastor. Her father, Mr. Kevin, also works at the school as the Dean of the School of Science and Engineering.
For Hajar, school starts at 8:45 a.m. and ends at 3:40 p.m. She usually gets home at 4:10 p.m, but sometimes it is around 8:00 p.m. or 9:00 p.m., depending on whether or not she has afterschool activities like studying, swimming or playing badminton.
Since Hajar's high school is on the same campus as the university her parents work at, she rides with her mom and dad to school. She usually takes the bus back home because her parents work late. Hajar is allowed to walk to school by herself, but she prefers to walk with friends. The walk to her school from her home takes about 35 to 40 minutes.
At school, Hajar eats lunch at the "think tank," the name students gave their cafeteria. She likes to share or trade food with her friends. Her favorite food is a meatball tajine, which has tomato sauce, potatoes and fries on top.
