Volcanoes and Earthquakes

Introduction:

Have you ever seen a volcano? Have you ever felt an earthquake? People who live in Puebla see a volcano everyday and sometimes experience earthquakes.

What makes this environment special or different?:

Puebla is at a very high altitude, 7,217 feet. The high altitude means that it doesn't get super hot in Puebla. The temperature year-round is in the 70s and 80s during the day, and it gets cooler at night. Puebla is surrounded by mountains and volcanoes on all four sides.

What parts of this environment help people to live here?:

The climate of Puebla makes it easier for people to live here. There is no need for a winter coat, gloves or hats here. People also don't have to worry about wiping snow off their cars or shoveling their sidewalks.

What challenges do people face living in this environment?:

Puebla is sometimes exposed to the ash that comes from a nearby volcano called Popocatepetl. If there is too much ash, flights are cancelled because the ash affects the planes. People who live very close to the volcano are advised to wear masks, cover water supplies and stay indoors when there is a lot of ash.

Also, Puebla has a rainy season from May to October and a dry season from November to April. During Puebla's rainy season, it rains almost every day.
