A feeling of calmness comes over me and the air always feels so clean. I was recently in a conference with other teaching assistants from all over Spain, and I could not talk highly enough about this region, urging them all to visit. It is a hidden gem that needs to be explored.
You can find the cows in a lot of places, but normally up in the mountains or in open grasslands. In the small town I teach in, outside of the capital, there are cows that roam around on a patch of land next to a main road. I also see them when I go play basketball, in courts nestled between the mountains. There are also goats I spot while going this way. The Eurasian Magpies are located all over Spain. I've seen them in different regions, such as Galicia and Madrid.
Asturias is known as a nature paradise due to all the nature, of course. It's a very green place due to the high amount of rain it gets throughout the year. The cows love this and feed on the grass that comes with it. The temperature here also never gets really cold or really hot, so I would assume the cows are appreciative of that too.
Just like most other cows, Asturian cows are food. In fact, they are very good food. It could be bias, but as soon as I arrived here I was told that the beef here is the best in all of Spain. I have not tried beef from all of the regions, but I can say that it is pretty good here. That being said, these cows are not here to live happily ever after, unfortunately.
