Almond trees are common throughout Spain, and the Comunidad de Madrid has several varieties. These trees are planted for agricultural reasons and their beautiful blossoms among communities. In fact, Spain is the second largest producer of almonds, after the United States. This week, the almond trees throughout Madrid started blooming.
There are more than 100 varieties of almond trees throughout Spain, and each has a slightly different appearance. Almond trees are generally on the short side (about 15 feet tall) with a narrow trunk. They're deciduous trees (they shed leaves in the fall and regrow them in the spring). Their blossoms are white to pale pink, and absolutely gorgeous!
I felt so excited to see these trees bloom--they are beyond beautiful, and it was so fun to see single trees in parks as well as larger fields of pink blossoms stretching across the landscape.
These trees are all over Spain but thrive mostly in the South. They're often planted in parks or yards for their beautiful pink blossoms.
