On the last day of our tour, we went to a beach called Playa Hermosa and boated to an isolated area where we snorkeled and observed the marine life! Near the beach, there were monkeys eating in the trees and even a coati! We had leftover pineapples and were able to feed some of this fruit to the coatis!
Besides those individual experiences, I would see animals casually as we traveled, such as howler monkeys in the trees; lizards crawling in the leaves; frogs hiding in stumps; and crabs hiding in the holes in the ground!
I think the coolest thing I saw this week, which is probably the coolest thing I saw in my life so far, is Rio Celeste. Rio Celeste is a river in Costa Rica that is pigmented a bright blue color due to effluents in the river not mixing. The pH changes at this point and produces minerals called aluminosilicates that stay suspended in the water. Because of the particular size of these aluminosilicates, when sunlight hits these minerals in the water, it reflects the color blue; this is why you’ll see this ultra blue color! Really cool, verdad?
Always pack bug spray! Although mosquitos and bugs are not an issue in San Ramon, they were definitely an issue while we were traveling in the North. I had about twenty mosquito bites, which isn’t so bad compared to one of my friends who had over fifty!
