This week I did not travel very much, just maybe twenty miles to go hiking with a friend. I also traveled around Ulaanbaatar quite a bit.
Several weeks ago, I drove to and from Bayan-Olgii, the farthest west province in Mongolia. This trip was almost 2000 miles round-trip! Because of this, I have probably traveled about 2200 or 2300 miles so far on my journey. That is about as far away as New York is from California!
This week, since the weather was so nice, I tried to walk as much as possible. I also took taxis, and took the bus several times.
The most interesting place I visited this week was Bogd Khan Mountain, where I went hiking with my friend. It was beautiful, and reminded me a lot of Pennsylvania’s mountains. There were lots of trees, which was nice after living in Ulaanbaatar for the last two months, and there was still snow on the ground in some places! The air was so fresh and clean, and my friend and I made friends with a very nice group of hikers. We had got a little lost, and these people helped us find our way back to the bottom of the mountain!
