Mongolia is one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen! The grassy hills, blue rivers, eagles and constant sunshine make Mongolia an amazing place for nature lovers. However, there are some major environmental problems in Mongolia. The most important environmental topics people usually talk about are pollution, the cold, and more recently, the uncertainty of future water access.
There are many things that make Mongolia's environment special. First off, Mongolia is cold and arid. Ulaanbaatar is the coldest capital in the world. While I write this, it is currently 8 degrees in Ulaanbaatar, and that's considered warm compared to typical December temperatures. In January and February, the average temperature will be negative 30 degrees.
I don't know if I would say that the cold, arid environment has made it easy to live in Mongolia. But, the environment has completely shaped the country's culture. For example, a traditional Mongolian dwelling is called a ger. There are winter gers and summer gers, and people change their gers to match the seasons. Winter gers are very well insulated.
