Few people dive off this side of the island because it's dangerous for the majority of the year. Having a local guide, I got to see a whole different underwater ecosystem with different corals, fishes and sharks! I got to fish for lionfish, an invasive species that have eaten many native species, in order to then sell them to local restaurants. Chefs, here, make lionfish into specialty dishes, or use their fins for jewelry.
The corals are still bleached :(. We are hoping they will cool off soon, but the future is looking grim. Many of the less resilient coral species may start to decline. I'll let you know when things start to recover. On land, there was enough time to go rock climbing and take in some of the terrestrial beauty of the island. Also, I am now one hour ahead of you all, as Curacao does not practice daylight savings! I really missed that extra hour of sleep!
