Our News

Trying all the different foods was deliciously wonderful; however, the conversations I had with so many people from different cultures was even better!

What music did I listen to this week?:

I am all over the board when it comes to music, from Disney to hip hop, reggaeton to gospel. This week I've been into the Hamilton Soundtrack and Billy Joel.

What activity was the most fun this week?:

A visiting professor came in and introduced us to a teaching method called VaKE, Values and Knowledge Education. The idea behind VaKE is that students are presented with a dilemma that brings up strong feelings which stem out of their values. By working through the dilemma as a group, each student recognizes the values that motivate them and others. Because these values differ and the group is trying to reach a solution, the students must seek out additional knowledge and thus construct their knowledge by themselves. You can learn more about VaKE at http://www.vake.eu/.

The professor gave us a dilemma so we could experience VaKE in action first-hand. I really enjoyed the discussions and information I learned while doing it!

What did I read this week?:

I read a compilation of people's ideas about what hospitality is and what it means to them. It was written by people from all over the world. It is interesting to see the differences and similarities between people's views of hospitality. What does hospitality mean to you? Do you have to be in your house or home country in order to be hospitable to someone?
