What main languages are spoken here?:

Like the rest of Korea, the main language in Jeju is Korean. Jeju is unique, however, because as an island, it developed its own unique dialect of Korean overtime. Some people say this dialect, called Jejumal, is distinct enough from Korean that it is a new language altogether. This language is mainly used by the older population of Jeju. Due to the Korean education system and travel from the mainland to the island, most people in Jeju speak mainland Korean. Today, fewer than ten thousand individuals speak Jejumal, and they are mostly elderly. Therefore, there is concern about the language disappearing from Jeju altogether.
