What main languages are spoken here?:

The main language spoken in Costa Rica is Español, Latin American Spanish! Like English, there are many different Spanish accents and dialects. For example, the dialects that are spoken in other countries like Spain and Argentina are very different from Costa Rican Spanish. This is similar to the way in which we have different accents in the United States than other English-speaking countries like Australia.

What type of money is used here?:

Colones are used as the main currency in Costa Rica. Colones are grouped into the thousandths place, so cinco mil colones (five thousand colones) is worth about eight dollars, whereas seis cientos colones (six hundred colones) is worth about one dollar. The money in Costa Rica is very beautiful and unique. Each bill is a different color, either red, yellow, blue, and purple, and each one has a different type of animal on the front to showcase Costa Rica’s unique biodiversity and to promote the ecotourism industry.

How much does a bottle of water cost?:

A common misconception about Costa Rica is that everything must be cheaper than in the United States, but on the contrary, things actually tend to be more expensive. Costa Rica is actually one of the most expensive countries to live in anywhere in the world.
