Many adults that I've come across in Singapore work as professionals, managers, executives or technicians in a variety of fields, but usually either finance, information or communication services.
Just like schools in the U.S., many schools in Singapore start at 8:00 a.m. and end at 3:00 p.m. However, some schools start and end earlier, and others start later but end closer to 4:00 p.m. or 5:00 p.m.!
Just like in the United States, many students get to school by bus. Others, however, simply take the train (called the MRT here), and less frequently students may be driven to school.
In both primary school and at the university, students often eat in a food court with several options from different stalls. Typical options include Asian, Indian, Western and vegetarian. A staple of Singaporean food is often a favorite--chicken rice!
English is the primary language used in schools in Singapore for teaching. Some schools are bilingual, which means they teach two languages!
Singaporeans have a whole mix of names. Some of the most common are English or Chinese in origin. Many popular English names are Rachel, Emma, Jenny, James, Shawn or John. Some common Chinese names include Jun Kai, Zhi Hao, Jun Jie, Yi Ling or Sze Jie.
