After a busy day of sightseeing and bike riding, we settled down for dinner on our sampan (see photo). We ate fried spring rolls and fish, and we got to make our own spring rolls. We even got to see how they make spring roll wrappers! We enjoyed our meal with our choice of Coke or a local fruity carbonated drink. It was delicious!
I tried a multitude of fruits, different variations of spring rolls, American-style food and Pho.
Trying new foods is one of my favorite things about traveling. I felt more connected to the culture by experimenting with eating local cuisine. I was so excited to think that I could continue to seek out Vietnamese cuisine both at home and in my future travels. I still crave the spring rolls today!
Vietnamese spring rolls are either fried or fresh and served with a sweet chile dipping sauce. I tried both ways, but I must say that I prefer the fried ones. Some places that we went to gave us the components of the spring rolls and showed us how to make them ourselves. You place the contents inside of the wrapper and then roll it like a burrito. They even gave our table an entire fish that we got the meat off ourselves! The fried rolls were normally served on a bed of lettuce.
