Traditions in South Africa

Introduction:

I began my time in South Africa in late March, so I arrived a week before COVID-19 caused the country of South Africa to shut down. Luckily, I was able to meet some locals, try new foods and explore the beautiful scenery before our visas were revoked. South Africa is one of the places that I am the most excited to visit again because there is so much to learn about their endless culture.

What tradition did I learn about?:

I learned about a variety of arts and crafts that locals thrive on to express their culture and to provide a livelihood with an active tourism industry.

Why does the community have this tradition?:

These artistic traditions are used to represent their cultures. It is a way to express their backgrounds and ethnicities which you can see in my photos here.

Is this tradition connected to its environment? How?:

These traditions have been carried on for hundreds of years. Although it may not be as connected to the environment now, it has constantly been evolving.
