Navigating the Railway System in Japan

Is this way of getting around connected to the culture and environment, How?:

Japan's advanced rail system has helped its economic development by allowing people to live in more rural areas and have a realistic way to get to work in larger cities. It has also spread out tourism because more areas are easily accessible by train. Shinkansen, the name of a local railway line, is seen as a symbol of efficiency because of how it helps connect the country. During a Global Studies class I took while abroad, we learned that the only modes of transportation that are more environmentally friendly than an electric train is walking or biking. It is a sustainable option that reduces greenhouse gases and traffic.
