Needless to say, I miss the prices in the states, however, I do not miss the food.
A bottle of water costs about 2-3 CHF. One CHF is equal to about $1.13 US dollars.
Every day spent in Switzerland is another day of enjoying delicious meals and a balanced diet. Before arriving here, I was a flexitarian, meaning I didn't eat red meat mostly due to the food culture and process in the U.S. All that changed when I tried Swiss red meat—superior is an understatement!
The best meal I had this week was definitely made by my host mom, who is an incredible chef. She cooked Swiss red meat or beef, and it was so good that I didn’t even think to take a picture before diving right in! We had it with some polenta, which is a traditional Swiss dish with Italian roots, made from cornmeal and usually served as a creamy side dish or firmed up and sliced. It was the perfect pairing with the meat.
To finish off, we had a homemade apricot pie, which was absolutely delicious!
This week, my music choices were a mix of French jazz study playlists and Afrobeat music. Since we’ve entered the ISP (Independent Study Research Project) period, where we dive deep into our own research topics related to health, I find myself gravitating more towards music to help me focus, write and relax. My study topic touches on historical trauma, which can be intense and heavy, so having calming background music is really helpful.
On the flip side, when I get homesick I listen to more Afrobeat music to remind me of home and bring some comfort.
