The Life of a Mongolian High School Student

How do you get to school? Are you allowed to go to school by yourself?:

I take the bus to school. I usually go with my little sister, and we are allowed to go together without any adult.

Where do you eat lunch? What is your favorite food?:

I eat lunch at school. My favorite food is Korean sushi, called kimbap, but I also love my mom's tsuivan.

What language do you speak at school? How do you say "Hello" in your language?:

I go to a Mongolian school, so we all speak in Mongolian. "Hello" in Mongolian Sain baina uu! or Sain uu if you are greeting your friends.

What are some common kids' names at your school?:

Mongolian names are usually a combination of words to make different meanings. For example, alt means "gold," and tsetseg is the word for flower, so one of my friends is named Altantsetseg, or "Golden Flower." Another one of my friends is named Munkhsalongo, or "Eternal Rainbow." We call her Soko for short!

What subjects do you study in school, and which one is your favorite?:

I study history, English, math, geography, Mongolian, and science. In middle school I also had to study Russian. I like my English class, especially my Access English class!

What is your homework like?:

We usually have a lot of homework, but I think many students in Mongolia do not do their homework!
