As you know by now, the language everyone speaks is... Mongolian!
The money, or currency, is called tugrik. The bills for different amounts of the tugrik are different colors. For example, a 10,000 tugrik bill is orange. A 20,000 tugrik bill is green and pink and a 1,000 tugrik bill is blue.
Depending on where you buy it (like from a stand on the street or from a fancy restaurant) a bottle of water can range between 1000 tugrik to 5000 tugrik. That's between 40 cents and two dollars!
Believe it or not, the best meal was... pizza! After a busy weekend in the countryside, eating traditional meals like tsuivan and hooshur, it was a real treat to bite into a juicy, cheesy pizza upon arrival back in UB. This shows you that Mongolia is really a land of contrasts!
I listened to a lot of popular American songs at a Halloween party that we held for Mongolian schoolchildren. We played a lot of songs by artists you may hear on the radio, such as Bebe Rexha and Justin Timberlake. Middle schoolers in Ulaannbaatar like the same music as middle schoolers in the United States!
