The environment people live in can also determine the type of food they eat. Fish is easy to get near the ocean so people in coastal regions often eat a lot of fish. Southern India grows many spices so foods from southern India are made with lots of spices.
One challenge India faces is providing for the large number of people who live here. India has the second biggest population in the world. The large population means there is a lot of competition for jobs even though natural resources are abundant. Also, when you have a large population you need lots of space for people to live and produce food. Many forests are being cut down to be used for human housing and farming.
Natural resources like oil and coal are considered "non-renewable resources". This means that once they are used up they are gone forever. If these resources are used up then many people will lose their jobs. Collecting these resources can also be very dangerous. Since coal is mined underground, there is a chance of the tunnels collapsing.
People have adapted to their environments by using the resources that occur naturally in their area. As I mentioned earlier, people eat food and collect resources that are easily found in their environment. People who depend on natural resources have also created organizations to protect those resources. The Indian government passes laws protecting many of the natural resources in India. For example, they have made some land into national parks so it can't be used by people for housing or farming.
