Italian Traditions!

Introduction:

Even though I live in an apartment, I have learned some Italian traditions in school and through other students' experiences. It is fascinating to learn and see them firsthand. I can't wait to share it with all of you, so you can compare your life and the life of an Italian.

What tradition did I learn about?:

One of my friends, Sabrina, is staying in a homestay in Italy! Unlike an apartment, where I live with other roommates, students who live in homestays actually live with an Italian family. Students who live in homestays usually get their own room and become part of the family during their stay abroad.

Living with an Italian family, Sabrina has experienced a lot more Italian traditions compared to me. For example, Italians really cherish family time. Because Sabrina is an essential part of the family, she has to make it home for dinner every night. During dinner, Sabrina gets to enjoy the traditional Italian foods her homestay family prepares for her while talking to the other family members about their day.

I shared this with my Italian professor (who was born and raised in Italy), and she said she does the same thing with her family! This is because family is such an important aspect of Italian culture. In class, I learned about Italian culture and learned that having all your family in one household is very common in the Italian community.
